*I swear this isn’t paid advertising
Yes, I know I just lamented on the my cancelation of DirecTv (fuck you, AT&T*), but I needed a trigger. Hey, I still needed my racing and Adult Swim.
I didn’t want to turn to “alternative means” just to watch it all the time. So when I found out about !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , I had to give it a shot.
AND I AM LOVING IT!!!
I did a 1 week free trial 3 weeks ago and I don’t regret the switch. Unfortunately, package prices vary anywhere from $5-$30 depending on the market that you live in.
But for half of what I was paying DirecTV (SERIOUSLY, FUCK YOU AT&T), I get FS1 & 2 (for WEC), NBCSN (for F1), and BeIN Sports.
YES, BeIN SPORTS!!! so I can watch all the motorcycle racing (and La Liga) I can cram to my heart’s desire. I don’t have to pay extra for it — it’s included in their Elite package (I pay $45/mo, so YMMV).
Plus a list of real channels that normal folks would watch**. And no bloat to fill your subscribed package (no QVC, HSN, etc., no multiple religious channels, no PPV movie channels, no digital music channels, no paying for extra crap channels). Plus cloud based DVR and no contract.
Anyway, I’m sorry to sound like paid advertising but I really like this service. So if you got the means (a good internet connection without a data cap) and the equipment (I’m using an Amazon Fire TV stick, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! for alternatives), give the free trial a shot.
*I hate AT&T so much that my company paid cellphone is on Verizon instead of AT&T even though they pay either carrier.
**Got to be able to watch Archer on FX

I’ve never heard of it and I love my Playstation. Might have to give the trial a trial.

Keep us informed on how this works out. I’m seriously tempted by this service. I bought a used PS3 a few years back as an alternative to a BluRay player, figuring that the extra $50 spent would be worth it for some purpose or another, and it looks like I just found that purpose. It’s just been sitting around for some time now because I really don’t watch a lot of movies, especially after my 55" TV died.
I’ve been watching only broadcast TV for the last few years, and searching out alternate methods of getting some of the cable-only content I’ve been missing. I used to download a lot of content from my TiVo box for watching later in order to free up drive space, but I found that I never watched any of it. The other day I pitched several hundred discs full of video that has been collecting dust for years. I figured that if I hadn’t viewed it by now I never would. PS Vue seems to just what I’m looking for, although as a 15-year TiVo user I wish I could stream it to that box - maybe someday...

Why would you want to stream the Vue service to your Tivo box?

My TiVo is the center of my entertainment system. It broadcasts the signal throughout my house, so I can move from one room to the next and the same program is playing. I can control it with the remote, an Android or iOS app, or via an app on my desktop. I can keep programs longer than 28 days. I can download programs onto my computer’s hard drive into whatever format I want, with the conversion sped up by a hardware acceleration device on my computer. I can program it remotely from anywhere in the world via TiVo’s website. I can search for YouTube videos on my tablet or computer, press one icon and have said program play throughout the house.
PS Vue would be a great source of content, but there’s no reason it needs to replace the main hub of my home entertainment setup. I have a Roku box, but I don’t like to press a button to switch over to it (especially if I’m upstairs) and then use a different remote to control it. There’s something to be said for having everything integrated into one box like I’ve done with the TiVo. Perhaps they can just provide an app for TiVo; I already have Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, Pandora, and many other content providers available to me on that unit, so it wouldn’t be without precedent.

Vue is app based already (FireTV, iOS), so it’s possible that an official Tivo app is coming. But I wouldn’t be surprised if someone has figured out an unofficial hack already. You’ll have to check the FAQ but I believe one account allows for viewership on multiple devices at the same time.
